(pair) French Louis XIII style carved walnut armchairs/ fauteuils, late 19th c., each having padded back and seat in highly-detailed petit and gros point needlework upholstery, depicting noble figures in verdant landscape with castles, scrolled foliate border with various birds, monkeys, serpents, and forest animal motifs, figural lion mask handles, rising on spiral twist supports, joined by H stretcher, ending on bun feet, (one) with worn manufacturer or upholsterer stamp at seat underside lining marked Gil. Collet Fabricairt (?), mostly indiscernible, approx 36.5"h, 25"w, 22.5"d, seat height: approx 18"h

Condition

03.25.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 3096: I note that the armchairs are presently intact and structurally sturdy, the back and seat padding having a well-retained form, the upholstery remaining securely bound throughout, all seams appearing to remain tight, the needlepoint is in remarkably well-kept condition, with some minute, light staining/ spotting in the central sky-ground, and are free from observed tearing or loss, the velvet trim with some tonal variations associated with light discoloration and fading commensurate with age and use, as described one chair is marked at the underside lining but is mostly indiscernible, the other chair being relined (not bearing mark), the tassel trim remaining securely applied throughout perimeter, the carved frame also being notably well-preserved, with a minute amount of minor surface wear such as light rubs to the finish, and some sparse nicks and abrasions commensurate with use, and I observe minor evidence of old woodworm, mostly near the lower legs, commensurate with origin
