French Napoleon III period ladies writing desk (bonheur du jour) and chair, late 19th c., including: (1) desk, having three quarter gallery top, superstructure fitted with two cabinet doors, over two drawers, mother of pearl inlay with painted accents throughout, panel opening to inset felt writing surface, over frieze drawer, rising on joined X supports with central finial, ending on cabriole legs, approx 57.75"h, 31.5"w, 22.75"d; (1) chair, openwork back with mother of pearl inlay, in blue fabric upholstery, with white cord trim, ending on front cabriole legs, some overall loss to finish and inlays throughout, approx 31"h, 17.5"w, 17.75"d, seat height: approx 17 1/8"h
10.27.24-In my opinion regarding LOT: 3258- both the chair and cabinet are in sturdy, stable antique condition, the cabinet displays alligatoring/crazing to finish, general wood wear, nicks, some loss and spotting to finish and small losses of inlay throughout, there is a small gouge on the desk surface, right below floral bouquet and a minute bubble/raised area at the top right ahead of floral bouquet, see images, galleried top further shows spotting and finish wear, pull out surface has a later liner, pulls may be later, gilt metal sabots are present on both front feet with some Verde patination, the stretcher is intact with similar described wear, central removable finial on the stretcher may have had a small ball tip at one time, the inner bottom panels of the concealed trim drawer have a slim gap, interior is mostly clean, the diminutive chair frame has some loss to finish and inlay, rubs along edges and upholstery shows some staining, all commensurate with age and use
