04.28.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 4518: The valences are comprised of a thin layer of gesso over wood, I note that both are presently intact and structurally sturdy, having comparable amounts of sparse minor chips and flaked gilt losses, there is minor evidence of old woodworm commensurate with Continental origin, the gilt finish with typical tonal variations associated with patination, spotting, and light surface grime commensurate with age, as well as having a couple small gilt-painted touch ups near the crest, this minor wear is typical and commensurate with age and use
