(lot of 37 Vol's) "The Romances of Alexandre Dumas", McKinlay, Stone & Mackenzie, New York, 1888-1894, this set of novels begins in 1626 and continues until the covers many French events from 1626 through French Revolution, each volume with a pictorial frontpiece within a hard cloth cover with gilt spine lettering, the first 14 volumes are titled the "D'Artagnan Romances", and include "The Three Musketeers", six volumes titled "The Regency Romances" include "The Man in the Iron Mask", and 17 volumes titled "Marie Antoinette Romances", including "Taking of the Bastille", set lacks vol. 38, each volume approx. 7"h, 4.75"w, .75"d, total of all approx. 20.75lbs **Note: Dumas based his D'Artagnan character on the life of Charles de Batz-Castelmore d'Artagnan (France, c.1611-1673) who was captain of the Musketeers under the French King Louis XIV. This real life D'Artagnan died during the siege of Maastricht, Netherlands and was said to have been buried in holy ground. On March 25, 2026, during repairs to the Saint Peter and Paul Church in Maastricht, a skeleton was found beneath a section of the floor where an altar table had been in place more than 200 hundred years ago. The remains are being scientifically examined at this time. Numerous reports of this are available on the Internet. Detailed condition reports are not included in this catalog.
