Even his proposal is couched in the fire metaphor, as he states how dark his house is and asks her for an ember from that fire. Eleven cattle, representing a living dowry, form the border of the art. The groom carefully chooses each cow, looking for the most beautiful colorings - his way of expressing his deep love for his bride.
