Framed oil on panel, "Divinity of Motherhood," signed upper right Charles Frederick Naegele (American, 1857-1944), signature visible under UV light only, retaining old agent label verso with artist name and title, label signed Budworth, likely of W.S. Budworth & Sons, addressed to 318 57th St., corresponding to the historic American Fine Arts Society Building, New York, sight: approx 25 1/8"h, 20.25"w, overall: approx 31.25"h, 26 3/8"w, 10lbs **Note: a photomechanical print of this composition is housed within the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., digital record ID number siris_jul_139393** **Provenance: Fred Nevill Antiques, one of Houston Texas' foremost antiques stores**

8.12.26-In my opinion regarding LOT: 3182 – I am not an expert on works of this nature so have taken numerous high-resolution images for your reference,  examination under UV light reveals a signature in the upper right which is not readily visible under normal illumination, the work is executed on a wood panel which has been cradled verso, the cradle appears intact, the panel exhibits a stable vertical hairline extending from the figure's nose through the shoulder and terminating near the upper edge of her gown, UV examination reveals an uneven aged varnish layer with areas of fluorescence and visible drips, together with scattered areas of inpainting throughout, I note what appears to be a more substantial and concentrated area of restoration in the upper left quadrant within and surrounding the figure's hair, additional surface observations include drips along the upper edge, skips and tonal variation to the varnish, a few minor flakes, scattered small areas of inpainting, and areas of surface texture, some of which appear inherent to the work, the giltwood frame is stable and intact, the gilded surface has mellowed with age and exhibits scattered lines, nicks and rubs with areas of exposed gesso, spotting and general surface wear
