Patinated bronze sculpture, The Kiss, c.1970, signed at base C. Umlauf (Charles Umlauf, American, active in Austin, Texas, 1911-1994), on integral slate plinth, further raised on marble pedestal, bronze only: approx 18"h, 23"w, 8.5"d, pedestal: approx 35.75"h, 21.5"w, 17"d **Provenance: From the private collection of Drs. John and Rebecca Kirkland. Purchased directly from the artist** **Note: A portion of the proceeds from this sale will be donated to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden in downtown Austin**
CR 3.24.25-In my opinion regarding: LOT 2199: Upon close, meticulous visual and UV light examinations, I note that the sculpture stands sturdy and appears securely joined to the slate plinth, which has a minor chip at the lower front right corner (see image), the bronze is a remarkably well-preserved condition and is currently free from observed evidence of notable surface wear, losses, or fractures, having inherent texture and patina, I have attached numerous images of the bronze from all angles for your review, the marble pedestal with inherent natural inclusions and fissures, and securely supports the sculpture, the display top sits freely upon the pedestal (is not attached), and remains fully intact with a hairline extending from a small chip near the left-hand side edge (see image, circled in red for reference), the front left corner of the display top with a small profession fill, the front panel of pedestal with a professionally reinforced hairline (see image under UV and natural light)
