Carved Belgian black marble sculpture, Embrace, signed at base C. Umlauf (Charles Umlauf, American, active in Austin, Texas, 1911-1994), on an integral red granite plinth, further raised on marble pedestal, sculpture overall: approx 15.5"h, 24"w, 15.5"d, pedestal: approx 36.75"h, 27.5"w, 21.5"d **Provenance: From the private collection of Drs. John and Rebecca Kirkland. Purchased directly from the artist** **Note: A portion of the proceeds from this sale will be donated to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden in downtown Austin**
CR 3.24.25-In my opinion regarding: LOT 2195: The sculpture weighs approximately 200lbs, please note that we do not have a furniture scale to accommodate the pedestal, and as such we can only provide an estimate, please note this is purely an estimation and we cannot guarantee it will not exceed this range for shipping fee purposes, our warehouse manager estimates the pedestal to weigh approximately 125-150lbs, the sculpture and pedestal together are estimated to weight 325-350lbs total; I note that the sculpture is securely joined to the granite plinth, close visual and UV light examinations do not reveal chips, hairlines/ fractures, or evidence of restoration, contours and edges remain smooth, the black marble having some sparse naturally occurring pitting, and a few very light, small natural inclusions, the sculpture remaining overall remarkably well-preserved, the pedestal stands sturdy and securely supports sculpture, UV light examination reveals a small professional restoration to a chip at the lower left corner of front panel (see image)
