Chinese Export carved hardwood mantel or shelf clock, Yu Chang Watch and Clock Company, early 20th c., having rectangular case, possibly rosewood, glazed sliding door revealing gilt-metal frame, depicting crossed Five Colored Flags of the Republic of China, among foliate scrollwork and bat motifs, encasing white dial with Roman numeral hour markers, double-fusee verge escapement, movement and dial frame marked Yu Chang, additional incised Chinese script to dial frame at verso, on rotating two-part stand with pierced scrollwork and Shou (Longevity) motifs, lower stand rising on cabriole legs and bun feet, observed operating, runs fast, starts and stops, would likely benefit from a professional adjustment and cleaning, retaining Fendley's Antique Clocks, Irving, Texas adhesive service label dated 1986, clock case: approx 13"h, 11"w, 5 1/8"d, overall on stand: approx 23.5"h, 13"w, 10"d, 21lbs total **Provenance: the Horseshoe Bay estate of Dr. John J. Sheehan**

CR 7.16.25 - As mentioned in the catalog description, the clock was observed operating but it runs fast and stops after several minutes. It is accompanied by a key, and the pendulum is present. It is quite difficult to wind, indicating that it could be fully wound. Both bells are present and resound nicely when manually struck. The glazed front and side panels are present and intact. The movement and the back of the dial frame are marked with Chinese characters. There is some typical light paint loss to the dial. There are remnants of a red wax seal on the back access door. As with all of our clocks, this piece would likely benefit from a professional adjustment and a thorough cleaning.
