U.S. census records), who enlisted at 14 years of age in the14th Regiment, Kansas Volunteer Cavalry, organized in 1863, and was assigned to Company K, the regiment participating in numerous engagements in Kansas and Missouri including the1863 Baxter Springs, Kansas battle against Quantrill's Raiders, Magers was later a Linn County, Kansas farmer: (1) silver tone badge, a banner form at top engraved "Co. K," on the lower hinged part "14 Kan. Vol. Cav," with a cutout star in a half moon reading "O.J. Magers," possibly Masonic related (1) United States military discharge certificate, dated June 25, 1865, at Ft. Gibson, Cherokee Territory, the certificate with several inked notations regarding pay and discharging Magers form the service of the United States; (1) photo print of Magers in later life
