Framed hand-colored engraving on laid paper, The City of Gouda, original engravings by Joris Hoefnagel (Flemish, 1542-1601) from "Civitates Orbis Terrarum," by Georg Braun (German, 1541-1622) and Frans Hogenberg (Flemish-German, 1535-1590), originally published by Theodor Graminaeus (German, 1530-1591), Cologne, 1572, some foxing and toning to sheet, taped to matting, sight: approx 13.75"h, 19.75"w, overall: approx 22.75"h, 27.75"w, 6.5lbs

11.13.25: As described the sheet exhibits typical light toning and foxing, and is taped to the matting at the top, bottom, and side edges, the print originally being two individual sheets, now centrally joined by an unknown adhesive medium, I observe some scattered spotting at the verso, a minute amount being visible from the recto, verso also with some light pencil inscriptions from a previous collector, hand-coloring likely done by a contemporary hand, pigment is overall well-retained and remains vivid, with some typical light rubs and wear to the edges of sheet commensurate with age/ framing, sheet is free from observed tearing or visible holes
