Egyptian Revival patinated and gilt-bronze model of a recumbent sphinx, with hieroglyph cartouches at his chest and sides, on assembled white marble plinth with ormolu relief plaque and rosettes, overall: approx 7.5"h, 11.25"w, 4.5"d, 12.75lbs
9.4.25 - In my opinion regarding LOT 3029: I note that the sphinx on plinth rests securely on marble base, which is not original to the bronze, the marble with an area of fill likely related to a previous mounting or inset, the marble base with two shallow drill holes to accommodate the small screw ends protruding from the underside of painted plinth to prevent excess movement when stationary, the marble with a few minor chips commensurate with age and use including loss to one corner, the bronze with tonal variations associated with patination, as well as rubs and light abrasions to the patina consistent with use/ display, as well as some sparse, minute pitting, please refer to attached images
