English George III mahogany secretaire bookcase, early 19th c., two astragal glazed doors opening to adjustable-height shelves, the lower cabinet with two upper faux drawer fronts that slide out and drop to reveal an interior secretary having a gilt tooled leather writing surface, ten drawers, a lockable center door with an interior drawer, two 'hidden' vertical drawers, the lower chest with three lockable drawers, on ogee bracket feet, lacking the molded cornice, approx 83.5"h, 47.5"w, 22.5"d
05.12.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 2247: As described the bookcase is lacking a molded cornice/ crown, I note that the case is presently intact and structurally sturdy, the glass panes being free from observed chips or hairlines/ fractures, remaining secure within glazed framing, interior shelving appearing sturdy, and drawers operating smoothly, the inset writing surface with typical minor wear such as fading and creasing along the hinged central seam, as is commensurate with age and use, the interior having an area of black ink staining, one of the small drawers lacking a pull, I observe patination and mellowing of the gilt metal hardware and trim, the exterior of the case retaining a nicely figured veneer with a rich hue, having a sparse amount of typical surface wear such as small nicks, abrasions, and scuffs commensurate with age and use
