English oak campaign silver or cutlery chest, plaque marked Mappin Brothers, 67 & 68 King William St. & 222 Regent St., London, 19th c., rectangular form with the exterior mounted with iron strapping, side-carrying handles, hinged lid opening to reveal interior storage, lacking interior fittings, approx 7.75"h, 20"w, 13.25"d, 12.75lbs

08.28.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 2541: I note that the chest is presently intact and structurally secure, with iron handles remaining secure to sides, there is patination/ oxidation throughout the mounted iron, the strapping having varying degrees of losses and a few spots of light lifting and metal warping (see images), the hinged lid is lacking central cartouche, the exterior of the box having typical surface wear such as abrasions, wear to the finish causing tonal variations of the wood, and areas of light discoloration, all being commensurate with age and use, the bottom panel of chest is intact with a couple splits of varying degree, the felt lining the interior of lid has some typical small holes, the interior of the box measures approximately 5.25”h, 18.75”w, 12 1/8”d, I have included an image of the lock plate as requested, but please note that this chest is lacking a key
