Fine German Meissen porcelain figural group, Roman Wedding, after the original 1781 design by Joann Carl Schoenheit (German, 1730-1805) and Michel Victor Acier (French, 1736-1799), model number G71, late 19th c., comprised of four separate parts, depicting Cupid as a winged male figure wearing floral sash and crown, bearing witness to a young couple's wedding, each in Classical-style draped garments and holding a flaming torch, standing afront a columnar pedestal with relief roundel depicting Cupid and Psyche, twice inscribed "Thalasio," each piece with blue underglaze crossed sword mark and incised model number G71 underfoot, affixed to later shaped wood base, porcelain only: approx 13"h, 11"w, 7.5"d, overall: approx 14"h, 12"w, 9"d, 19lbs **Note: a detailed description of this model appears in the 2004 Doctoral dissertation "Neoclassical Porcelain Sculpture from the Meissen Manufactory, 1764-1814 (Die Klassizistische Porzellanplastik de Meissener Manufaktur)" by Pauline Grafin von Spee M.A., Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitat, 2004, pages 319-320** **Provenance: From the inventory of a retired Houston antiques dealer** 8.18.26- In my opinion regarding LOT: - please note, I am not an expert on Meissen works, I have taken numerous images including under UV light for your review, the group is overall intact exhibiting typical small professional and glue restorations, small losses and repairs to applied elements throughout, light paint wear with some possible touchups, abrasions and minor roughness to edges, overall exhibiting wear consistent with age and display Figure in Burgundy Robe (knee up)- corner of rear base at the protruding edge may have a possible firing flaw or repair, this is difficult to see, it also may be how it was constructed see image, the lower right side/panel of figures robe reacts green under UV light, I am unsure if this is evidence of repair or later paint/varnish, wreath shows typical small losses and repairs to applied flowers and leaves with some adhesive Figure with Cornucopia- there seems to be debris to the interior that makes noise when figure is moved, I observe typical small losses, repairs and adhesive to flowers and leaves, there is a possible repair or overpaint at lower rear left corner of the base, there appears to be some sort of varnish or overpaint Figure in White Robe- the flame tip reacts under UV light indicating professional restoration, the lower robe protruding on her right may have been professional restored, it reacts a whitish green under UV light, there is a firing flaw in her robe near the rear foot, see image, I further observe typical chips and repair to wreath and applied flowers/elements Central Figure- both the left hand and foot appear intact with professional restoration indicated by the UV light examination, I further note typical small losses to wreath and a possible restoration the hair at front right, see images, applied flowers and elements show typical adhesive, small losses and repairs, there is a firing flaw/ glaze skip on the pedestal at right side, see images
