Framed French Rococo style gouache and watercolor painted fan, 18th/ 19th c., depicting a fete galante (courtship party), three distinct scenes in verdant pastoral landscapes, central scene also with architectural balustrade and large botanical urn, each scene framed by parcel-gilt rocaille scrollwork, encased behind glass, fan mounted to board, taped restoration at left-hand edge and small paper losses obscured by matting, sight: approx 9.25"h, 20.25"w, overall: approx 15.75"h, 26"w, 6lbs 07.17.26: As described the fan leaf is adhered to a board, a tear near the right/ hand edge with taped restoration (obscured by framing). and there is paper loss at the lower leaf where sticks would be bound and along edges that is obscured by the matting, loss is likely related to the adhesive placed on this area and the margins to mount the matting to the leaf (see images), however the adhesive has degraded and the mat is no longer attached to the board, small paper loss around the curved edge of leaf have been touched up with gilt inpainting, the watercolor and gouache pigment is overall well-retained, the surface having some very slight discoloration, the lower section ending at an apex with light toning, the parcel-gilt scrollwork is notably well-preserved and retains a warm hue, fabric-lined mat exhibits typical light staining/ discoloration commensurate with age, and the glass is free from observed hairlines/ fractures or visible chipping, the giltwood frame with chipped loss to the corners with visible gesso
