Framed oil on canvas board painting, "Oaks and Chamisa," signed lower right Fremont F. Ellis (New Mexico, California, 1897-1985), titled, dated 1927, and inscribed El Rancho de San Sebastian, Santa Fe, New Mexico verso, accompanied by hand-written sentimental letter from Bambi Ellis (New Mexico, 1922-2022), daughter of the artist, see final image for a view and translation of the letter, sight: approx 15 3/8"h, 19.25"w, overall: approx 23.5"h, 27.5"w, 7.25lbs
11.5.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 2187: I note that the painting is presently intact, the board being securely encased within framing, and having some visible texture from the canvas lining of the artist board, I observe a small spot of paint loss at the top right-hand corner, and a couple minute spots of loss along the right inner edge of frame, likely from rubbing against the frame, the signature at lower right is partially obscured by frame, as is visible in the images there is discoloration/ staining to the verso of board, which is not visible from through the painting, close visual and UV light examinations do not reveal evidence of restoration, and the frame exhibits tonal variations from a gray paint applied to the corners to emulate age, with typical light seam separation at corners but remaining structurally secure
