French Empire style mahogany sideboard, early 20th c., rectangular marble top, three projecting frieze drawers, centered pair of cabinet doors, flanked by side cabinets, turned half pilasters with gilt-metal capitals, approx 40"h, 85"w, 21.5"d

10.3.25 - In my opinion regarding LOT 1140: I note that the sideboard is structurally sturdy throughout, the marble top is free from observed hairlines/ fractures or evidence of restoration, with some typical minor chipping, mostly along the unfinished back edge, the right side panel with a couple of minor splits with filled reinforcement, I observe a few spots of minute woodworm evidence, most with filled concealment under the finish, which is commensurate with origin, I note a few small spots of light finish “alligatoring”/ crazing, drawers open smoothly and gilt-metal mounts remain secure with an overall bright tone of the gilding, interior shelving appears sturdy, and there is minute surface wear commensurate with age and use such as a few light abrasions and nicks
