French Gothic Revival carved oak longcase clock, late 19th c., having pierced crest modeled as an architectural spire, over dial with Roman numeral hour markers, weight-driven time-and-strike movement, paneled door with carved tracery motifs, rising on squared plinth with linenfold designs, accompanied by (two) weights, not currently operational, appears to be wound tight, approx 98.5"h, 23"w, 13.75"d
CR 5.27.25- In my opinion, the case is in overall good condition and is sturdy and structurally sound. The glazed dial viewing panel is intact and the hardware appears to be original. The dial exhibits typical light denting and patination commensurate with age. The weight-driven movement appears to be wound tight, as it is very difficult to wind. As noted in the catalog description, the clock is not currently operational. Though it is accompanied by two weights, we did not test the movement with the weights attached because the strings were wound up inside the dial when it arrived to our gallery. The top part of the case that would normally slide off from the front side has been secured with a screw. As with all of our antique clocks, this movement would likely benefit from a professional adjustment and a thorough cleaning.
