French Louis XV style armoire, late 19th c., having arched molded cornice over carved foliates, dual doors on long exterior iron hinges decorated with putti holding wreath, over shield flanked by axe and arrows, opening to three shelves, scrolled apron centering shell motif, rising on short cabriole legs ending in whorl feet, back panels replaced, approx 92.5"h, 62.5"w, 21.5"d **Provenance: the contents of the prominent San Antonio Holt Family's Terrell Hills home**
10.9.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 3091: As described the back paneling of armoire is a modern replacement, I note that the armoire is presently intact and structurally secure, the large armoire doors are securely hung to case by long exterior hinges, which exhibit light spotting and patination, the top section of right-hand side panel displays a restoration adjacent to a gouge near the back edge, the case having scattered typical minor filled restorations and reinforcements to areas of seam separation, splits, and minor chips/ losses, particularly under the cornice at the upper region of side panels, there is a faintly visible glue reinforcement at the back right-hand leg joinery to apron, I observe additional typical splits without reinforcement, such as at the central plane of both armoire doors, I observe evidence of old woodworm mostly contained to side paneling, including some eaten loss to the back right leg, which appears structurally stable at this time, minor surface wear such as abrasions, chips, and nicks are typical and commensurate with age, use, and origin
