French Napoleon III period burlwood liqueur casket/ tantalus set, late 19th c., having hinged case, likely finished in amboyna veneers, with brass marquetry and stringwork trim, revealing removable cradle fitted with assembled drinks service, comprising (four) etched crystal decanters and (sixteen) cordials, rising on bun feet, lifting to top panel at front right side, intact with small losses and restorations, lacking corner trim piece at back, approx 11"h, 12.75"w, 9.5"d, 11lbs
CR 9.2.25 - In my opinion regarding LOT: 3511- the box is sturdy and stable and remains overall intact with typical small losses, wear and restorations, the wood presents natural characteristics and imperfections including knots and variation, there are small areas of veneer loss primarily concentrated to the left side case and hinged door tops, the doors open smoothly, the top has had its original hinges replaced at one time and no longer locks in place while open on its own, the top panel is slightly lifted at the right front corner with visible adhesive noted along the edge of the interior panel, the rear corner lacks its slim trim piece, possible restorations to the veneer are noted at both front corners and one rear corner where the veneer is triangular in form, the cradle is stable, the metal exhibits mellowing and wear to the gilt finish, the glass is mismatched though free of significant chips or cracks, overall the piece shows wear and loss commensurate with age and use
