French Napoleon III period parcel-ebonized portico clock, 19th c., case with scrolled foliate marquetry, rising on Solomonic columns, centering white dial with Roman numeral hour markers, time-and-strike movement marked Japy Freres, housed in a glass cloche, rising on ebonized base, retaining pendulum and bell, porcelain dial intact with small fracture at right side, not currently operational, clock: approx 17.5"h, 8.75"w, 5.25"d, overall: approx "h, 14.5"w, 10"d, 11.5lbs CR 5.27.25 - As noted in the catalog description, this clock is not currently operational. It is accompanied by a bell and a pendulum, and the suspension spring is intact. The bell resounds nicely when manually struck with the striker. It is difficult to wind, indicating that it could be wound tight. The movement does not appear to respond to winding. As mentioned in the catalog description, the porcelain dial is intact with a small fracture near the right side. As with all of our antique clocks, this piece would likely benefit from a professional adjustment and a thorough cleaning of the movement.
