French Renaissance Revival carved walnut buffet deux corps, 19th c., upper case having molded cornice, over dual cabinet doors with carved allegorical figures, opening to shelved interior, over three graduated drawers, lower case fitted with three additional drawers, on columnar supports, with central cabinet decorated with carved urns and foliate scrollwork, case accented by inset ebonized panels and rising on bun feet, approx 69.25"h, 37"w, 18.75"d
10.24.24-I note that the cabinet is presently intact and structurally sturdy, the upper case having a minor split extending from either side of frieze, the cornice with a minor glue repair at the top left front corner, there are minute, shallow splits to some of the inset ebonized panels, all remaining stable, the left-hand side cabinet of upper case with loss to the top segment of trim of the protruding inset panel above the carved figure (see image), one of the column supports at the lower case appears off-kilter at the dowel joinery and can likely be adjusted but I am unable to do so as the upper and lower cases are currently braced for gallery staging, the drawers currently operate smoothly, and the interior shelving appears sturdy, there is sparse minor surface wear, which is typical and commensurate with age and origin, such as scuffs to the column supports, and minor chips, the carved elements being remarkably well-preserved
