German Mauser K98 Carbine, bolt action, 7.92 x 57mm caliber, 23.62" barrel, blade front sight, bayonet lug, front barrel band marked "5984", adjustable rear sight to 2000 meters with Nazi eagle mark and numbered "8467", Nazi eagle behind rear sight on barrel with number "6367" and "avk" (barrel maker Ruhrstahl WK, Brackwede-Bielefeld) and "7.92". the receiver ring marked at top "b c d" (mfg. Gustloff Werke, Weimar) and "41 (date of mfg.), the left side receiver ring Nazi eagle and "6367" over "e", the receiver ring at right side with proof markings and two Nazi eagles, the left receiver wall marked "Mod 98", the underside of the bolt handle with Nazi eagle, the bold release gate with the Weimar eagle and "31", the floor plate marked "8930", eagle with factory code and "1670" crossed out, steel butt plate with rust, wood has numerous chips, metal has pitting particularly on left side, action is good, bore is dark with pitting, SN 6367 *REQUIRES FFL TRANSFER* **Provenance: This German firearm was likely a WWII Russian capture and later given to NVA forces in Vietnam and finally captured by U.S. Army personnel. The attached photos provided by the consignor who was present when the rifle was captured shows this event.** **Provenance: From Donald and Renate Van Stone's Austin, Texas estate. Donald Van Stone served as the Regional Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago from 1971-1984, a time in which the bank was expanding internationally. After assignments in Germany, Kenya, and Australia, the Van Stones moved to Manila, Philippines where they began amassing an impressive collection of Chinese and Southeast Asian art and artifacts, some of which will be offered in this auction.**
