Historical record: Slave Bill of Sale,  February 9, 1852, "The State of Louisiana-Parish of St. Helena, the auction sale of property from the estate of James and Anna Roddy, deceased, by auctioneer Benjamin Neil of "the Negro man Lewis, age 33 years ..... belonging to the said estate" "Joseph J. Roddy being the highest bidder" .... at the price and sum of Eight Hundred Dollars", signed by the, witness, the purchaser and the "Recorder, S.B. Draughin" (sp?), in very good condition and readable
