Italian Renaissance Revival walnut hall chair, 19th c., having openwork carved back with shell motif crest, over heraldic shield with lion salient, shaped seat with incised foliates, rising on dual supports with winged hybrid dragons, approx 43.5"h, 14"w, 20"d, seat height: approx 19"h 05.19.25: I note that the chair is presently intact and structurally sound, all elements appearing secure at joinery, the seat back having multiple areas of filled reinforcement to seams of separation and splits, remains secure throughout, I observe a small piece of loss at the end of scroll issuing from the body of grotesque at the right-hand side of the seat back, which is mostly only visible from the reverse side, overall I observe evidence of old woodworm commensurate with origin, and tonal variations of the wood associated with light finish wear and fading, there is a sparse amount of typical minor surface wear such as light abrasions, nicks, and small chips commensurate with age and use
