Japanese Buddhist portable shrine/ zushi, black-lacquered hardwood case, opening to carved giltwood figure of the Amitabha (Amida Butsu) Buddha against mandorla, adorned in robes and mounted pierced metal crown, one hand in the vitarka mudra (teaching or discussion), the other hand gripping scepter, rising on lotus and stepped plinth, the door interiors mounted with hand-painted and parcel gilt figures of the Buddha and a robed devotee on paper, approx 11"h, 4.75"w, 3.25"d, 1lb **Provenance: from a California collection**
