French Chinoiserie lacquered art-case quarter grand piano, Joseph Gabriel Gaveau, Paris, c.1911, model 1, number 1809, the case decoration by Maison Gouffe, with gilt-painted accents, lacquered architectural landscapes with scrollwork trim, on tapering fluted legs, brass-capped feet, retaining Gouffe tag, (one) leg incised 554, approx 38"h, 55"w, 58"d

1.21.24-LOT 3179 : Please note this piano has not been reviewed by a professional technician, I am not an expert in musical instruments and am conducting a strictly physical examination of the piano, I note that the case is presently intact and appears structurally sturdy, with some typical minor splits commensurate with humidity, the case is lacking the key cover, the sheet music stand is present but lacks the hinges at reverse, all hinged elements operating smoothly, all of the keys currently elicit a sound when pressed (accuracy of tuning/ pitch is unknown), a few of the keys having minute hairlines extending from the front edge of key (see images), the lacquered finish having typical craquelure with a small number of scattered flaked losses, tonal variation some rubs and wear, all being minor, the metal elements at the interior of case having light patination and spotting commensurate with age
