Bluthner 7" grand piano, #43189 made in 1895.

Case and finish: Extensively encrusted ormolu case with custom hand painting throughout. Lid prop functional but not original to this piano.
No bench.

Music desk: Glue joints loose. Left side of music desk cracked.

Pedals and back action: Pedals, pedal lyre, and linkage missing. Functional back action means the dampers lift when pressed manually from beneath the piano. A custom-made replacement pedal lyre would be required to make the pedals function.

Action: Because the ormolu in attached to the front of the case, it is not possible to extract the action for a detailed inspection without removing the ormolu from the front of the piano. From what I can examine, the action appears to be fully functional.

Downweight (the weight required to fully depress the keys) : 65-68 grams. Up-weight: not possible to measure up-weight without a functional pedal system to raise the dampers.

Original ivory keytops have been previously replaced with plastic keytops. These keytops are in good condition.

Hammers appear to be original or may have been replaced half a century ago.

Strings and Tuning Pins: Original strings and tuning pins. Missing piano wire at F2.

Soundboard, Bridges and Plate. Hand-painted plate. Some cracks in soundboard, previously glued.

Pitch and tone: Typical Bluther tone, softer than American pianos of the same era.

This piano has been inspected by a Registered Piano Technician who is available to answer any question you have about the mechanical elements of the piano.
