Aesthetic Movement "Japonisme" secretary cabinet, in the manner of Gabriel Viardot (French, 1830-1906), late 19th c., having pagoda-form top, over dual cabinet doors with intricate mother-of-pearl inlay, opening to lined interior fitted with two drawers and fixed-height shelf, lower case having single drawer, with fall-front facade revealing green velvet writing surface, raised on square fluted column supports, paneled backsplash with inlaid flowering tree motifs, rising on scroll feet, unmarked, small chips along carved lower edge of upper case, approx 61.25"h, 31.75"w, 16.5"d
10.9.25 - In my opinion regarding LOT 3074: I note that the cabinet stands sturdy and appears structurally secure throughout, close examination reveals some small, minor inlay losses, which are typical and consistent with age and use, the fretwork trimming the upper edge of the lower structure having some minor glue residue near joinery, possibly being reinforced, the left side trim with a glue restoration (see image), the right side of the trim under the pagoda top with a small split with glued reinforcement that is overall minor, the front left corner of the pagoda with a couple of small filled chips, the left side panel with some stable separation, the right side with some minor splits, the interior of the left cabinet door with a small segment of trim loss (see image), secretary extends smoothly and remains tight on hinges, the velvet writing surface remaining securely bound with light discoloration, and there is evidence of old woodworm commensurate with origin seemingly contained to the base, I observe typical minor surface wear, which is overall sparse, such as the described minor chipping, as well as light abrasions commensurate with age and use
