Large Spanish Baroque style oak open armchair, late 19th c., parcel-gilt embossed leather chair back depicting Saint George and the dragon, trimmed with large brass nail-heads, scrolling arms, on stretcher-joined twist supports, metal estate inventory tag OE 251, approx 52.25"h, 25.75"w, 27.5"d, seat height: approx 18"h

Condition

09.04.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 2323: I note that the chair is presently intact and structurally secure, with patination of the nail-head trim, the center of seat back crest rail lacking one of the nail-heads, both finials are present: one having a segment of loss to base, the other with minute glue reinforcement, the leather upholstery is worn, displaying light water spotting, small stains/ discoloration, and minor fading, I observe typical peeling of varying degrees at the lower quadrant of seat back, corner edges, the front of seat, and the arms, the embossed decoration remaining clear and legible, the bottom half of the scrolled hand holds of the arms appear to be cropped, I observe a some visible seams/ splits at a segment of the front right-hand twisted support (does not appear to obstruct structural security), and typical light surface wear to the frame such as minor nicks and abrasions commensurate with age and use
