(lot) WWI Archive of "Sergt. Wm. H. Levering, Co. C. 124th Machine Gun Btn., 33rd Div., A.E.F.", includes (2) glass negative photos of an apparent presentation with audience, soldiers setting up machine gun, cavalry horses and soldiers; (1) hand written diary beginning in May 1918 through April 1919 with detailed description of combat starting in Sept. 1918 in 45 day Meuse-Argonne offensive campaign that saw the A.E.F. engage in its' bloodiest battle of WWI; (1) photo album, includes more than 90 photos apparently taken by Levering, mostly in Europe, a photo showing a machine gun company, hand written notes with one partially reading "A new gas is reported being used by the enemy. You will take extra precautions to prevent casualties", pamphlet dropped from Germans by "aero" planes urging soldiers to "save your own life" or you "will be tombstone in France"; (1) booklets including "33rd Division, A.E.F", principal events from "its Arrival in France", "The Soldiers' French Phrase Book", "The Friendship Diary", YMCA, has photo of 9 cylinder motor on airplane, "Funny Things The Doughboys Tell, With and Humor", one pocket size bible, "Soldiers Individual Pay Record Book"; (1) pencil written inspection/equipment report on 25 soldiers under Levering's command; (1) period French map with general battle area outlined and other news paper clippings, these items housed in a Riker box, for shipping largest measurements approx. 16.25" x 12.25" x 1.75"h, total of all 5.95lbs **Provenance: Collection of T'Odon Charles (Chuck) Leshikar, Jr., (Texas,1946-2020), Vietnam, U.S. Army Lt. ,“Delta Raiders,” D Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, later Echo Company commander, Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, Soldiers Medal, Purple Heart.
