French Empire style mahogany jardinieres/ planters, now converted into consoles, in the manner of Francois-Honore-Georges Jacob-Desmalter (French, 1770-1841), 19th c., having demilune verde marble tops, over apron mounted with swags spaced by torches and wreaths, fine gilt metal caryatid central standard modeled as a maiden clutching drapery, additional columnar supports, terminating on platform base, further rising on front paw feet, approx 41.5"h, 21.75"w, 13.75"d **NOTE: Description revised 03.27.25 to reflect that these are of a gilt metal, the metal is NOT believed to be bronze**
03.27.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 3106: **Upon further review by my supervisors, we do not believe the metal elements of these consoles to be bronze, instead we believe it to be a general gilt metal, however the gilt finish appears to be of fine quality** I note that both consoles are presently intact and stand sturdy, both appearing structurally secure, close visual and UV light examinations of the marble reveals one with a couple of minute professionally reinforced hairlines, both with some sparse professionally concealed/ filled natural pitting, and varied degrees of chipping commensurate with age and use, as well as having naturally occurring inclusions and veining, both consoles having a small number of small professional concealments of minor veneer chips, which are also typical, and some scattered minute splits, all appearing stable, one console with separation at the frontal top edge of platform base remaining intact, the gilt metal appearing securely mounted throughout with tonal variations associated with patination/ oxidation, soft mellowing and light rubs, and minor pitting, all being commensurate with age, there is typical minor surface wear such as light abrasions, small veneer chips, nicks, and shallow grooves, all being commensurate with age and use
