(pair) French Louis XVI style mahogany commodes, after the model by Jean-Francois Leleu (French, 1729-1807), 20th c., shaped marble top, over case with scrolling foliate and garland swag bronze dore mounts, narrow frieze drawer, over two standard drawers with inlaid geometric banding and incised foliates, rising on metal-capped tapering fluted legs, approx 35.25"h, 34.75"w, 22"d **Provenance: the contents of the prominent San Antonio Holt Family's Terrell Hills home**

9.30.24-LOT 3216: Both commodes are presently intact and structurally sturdy, the marble tops of each are in remarkably well-preserved condition and possibly later, there are no major cracks or repairs noted to tops.

Drawers operate smoothly, with the interiors remaining well-kept and with only very minor wear noted.

The Ormolu mounts and trim are all present and remain securely attached to the cases, some tacks vary in color, I note some spotting, Verde patination, rubs and mellowing to gilding, metal insets to fluted legs are all present with some slight bending observed.

Both wood cases exhibit wear as commensurate with their age and use, including tonal variation, small areas of scattered finish wear/rubs and lines, small nicks and minor abrasions to wood, there are further some small veneer chips (details below), both cases would likely benefit from a gentle cleaning and waxing, a single key accompanies the pair, the key operates all locks.

Please see below for a more detailed accounting of each:

(1) there is a very small minute chip along back edge of marble top, commode has two stable slim splits to wood at each handle attachment of  the top drawer, there are very narrow slivers of veneer loss and minor lifting along the meeting edges of the two standard drawers (see image), there is a small minor abrasion with finish wear to front center case, the rear right leg is intact with reinforcement (see image) with some visible epoxy?

(2)  commode has a small slim segment of veneer loss to trim along the right-hand side of drawer (it has been colored), top drawer is lacking two small tacks/nails in the lock plate, it is slightly loose however fully functional

I am not an expert on such furniture so have taken multiple high-resolution images, please see the WeTransfer link below **Provenance: the contents of the prominent San Antonio Holt Family's Terrell Hills home**
