Framed oil on canvas painting, S.S. Hermes Under Sail in Rough Waters, signed lower right A. Jacobsen (Antonio Nicolo Gasparo Jacobsen, Denmark, New Jersey, 1850-1921), dated 1889?, likely relined, patched repairs, sight: approx 21.75"h, 35.5"w, overall: approx 24.75"h, 38.5"w, 6.25lbs **Provenance: the Stanley Family's fine Tarrytown Estate**
2.27.26- In my opinion regarding LOT: please note that I am not an expert on such works so have taken numerous images for your reference, the painting is relined, possibly with a wax lining, a UV light examination reveals a heavy old varnish layer, visible patched repairs/restorations are present to the reverse, with corresponding areas of inpainting noted over the repaired sections and sparsely scattered throughout the composition, there is a light line at center canvas, minor paint flakes, faint stretcher lines, craquelure, and areas of spotting and surface residue, the work would likely benefit from a professional cleaning, the frame encases the work securely, I note scattered nicks to the edges and light wear and minor losses to the finish
