Life-sized patinated bronze sculpture, Disrobing, signed in cast C. Umlauf (Charles Umlauf, American, active in Austin, Texas, 1911-1994), "Fonderia/ Luigi Tommasi/ Pietrasanta" foundry stamp on base, on integral black granite plinth, further raised on stone platform, bronze: approx 63"h, 27"w, 11.5"d, overall: approx 69.5"h, 34"w, 17"d **Note: a conte crayon study for this sculpture offered in this auction**
10.23.25 - In my opinion regarding LOT: 3229 — the sculpture was consigned by a private party, c. 1983, it is overall intact and stands sturdy upon its stepped base, a UV light examination of the bronze is unremarkable revealing no evidence of restoration, the patina presents warm and tonal with some rubs, light abrasions, and light wear throughout, I note slight inherent imperfections to the bronze including minor pitting and subtle irregularities from the casting process, in my opinion, none detracting from the aesthetic quality of the work, there are some faint drips running down the right leg and light dust to the textured base, both of which could likely be resolved with a gentle cleaning, the stepped double base is with typical intermittent edge chipping of varied degree, specifically, the dark base with small chips to the right front and rear corners and an additional chip along the back edge near the title tag, the limestone plinth likewise displays scattered chipping and expected stabilization to the stone as originally created, overall the work is in good condition with wear commensurate with age and display
