CR 1.9.25 - In my opinion regarding LOT: 3370 - please note I am not an expert on such works and have therefore taken numerous high resolution images for your review, a UV light examination reveals an aged varnish layer with scattered fluorescence and visible varnish drips concentrated along the upper edge, with a distinct backwards L-shaped area of restoration visible at the center right quadrant, see images, the canvas has been relined, likely as a stabilizing measure, the paint surface exhibits a very fine and consistent network of craquelure throughout, with minute flaking noted along the lower edges, a small abrasion with associated paint flake loss is present at the center left area just above the ship, the work would likely benefit from a professional cleaning as overall surface grime and light discoloration are observed, the perimeter edges are lined with old masking tape, the reverse reveals a wood stretcher retaining what appears to be an owner’s tag, the frame is heavy and structurally stable, exhibiting segmental loss to the beaded trim along the border with localized areas of exposed gesso, and the finish shows scattered rubs and light wear consistent with age and handling
