03.08.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 1490: The mechanical element of the secretaire is the central case of drawers that is nested within the cabinet and released with a latch located on the back edge of top paneling, it is currently functional but the latch can be a bit sticky, there is patination of metal hardware, and I note that the cabinet is presently intact and structurally sturdy, with visible seams/ splits to the wood, including to top panels and cabinetry doors, there is a small spot of lifting along the front edge of top that has been reinforced with adhesive, the interior inset writing surface and lined compartment revealed upon lifting hinged side panels display wear commensurate with age and use such as abrasions, discoloration, and creasing, I observe minor chips and losses to veneer concentrated at the edges and trim pieces, the drawers operate smoothly and the marquetry is overall well-retained
