Fine French Napoleon III period burled walnut cave a liqueur, late 19th c., serpentine-shaped case with bronze dore mounts and beaded brass trim, having hinged lid with central Sevres style porcelain portrait plaque, depicting the Olympian harvest goddess Demeter with Greek inscription "Dimitir," opening to removable cradle fitted with (four) etched crystal decanters with stoppers and (sixteen) matching cordial glasses, attributed to Baccarat, each decorated with floral swags and oval facets, case rising on protruding whorl feet, approx 10.25"h, 15.75"w, 10.5"d, 13.25lbs **Provenance: Through our consignor, purchased from M.S. Rau Antiques, New Orleans, Louisiana**
06.21.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 3242: I note that the case is intact and structurally secure, the veneer being overall well retained with a minute chip at lower side panel, and a sparse amount of minute nicks commensurate with age and use, hinged panels operating smoothly granting access to interior, the gilt bronze elements with some light patination and mellowing, close examination of the cordials and stoppers does not reveal chipping, one cordial having a minor glue reinforcement at the foot and stem joinery, one cordial with several minute hairlines extending from edge of foot, these may be small abrasions, but my fingernail catches in the seam and as such I believe them to be hairlines, all are tiny and appear stable, this typical wear is overall minor and commensurate with age and use
