Exceptional French Renaissance Revival carved walnut four-poster/ tester bed, in the manner of Maison Fourdinois, late 19th c., having molded canopy with architectural corbels and foliate swags, the interior paneling with crown and crucifix motifs amongst scrolling grape vinery, rising on full-figure supports modeled as armored Roman soldiers, above protruding half-figures, scrolled headboard with mask and shield crest, over heraldic crown and scrolling foliates, the footboard with bas-relief frieze depicting Classical figures engaging in a feast, rising on bulbous turned columnar supports, ending on vasiform front feet, exterior: approx 106"h, 87"l, 68"w, interior: approx 78"l, 59.25"w **Provenance: Property from a distinguished private collection** 08.20.26: I note that the bed is structurally sturdy, comprising ten pieces total, each fitting together securely, the veneer retains an overall uniform tone, possibly being re-finished, and is overall free from notable fading or discoloration, the carved elements are notably well conserved, having some typical small chips commensurate with age and use, which are sparse, one of the standing figural supports with restorations, notably to the shield (see images), the bed overall having a few scattered restorations and some small glue repairs, including one of the footboard posts (see images), which appears professionally restored, the other footboard post with a split having filled reinforcement but it appears to remain fully stable, the crest is intact with a central seam of restoration (see images), and there is evidence of old woodworm commensurate with origin
