French Empire bronze dore figural mantel clock, early 19th c., surmounted by floral cornucopia and stacked wreaths, flanked by the Greek gods Psyche and Cupid, central white enamel dial with Roman numeral hour markers, inscribed Ledure Bronzier a Paris (Pierre-Victor Ledure, 1783-1870), Hemon Hr. (Claude Hemon, fl.1770-1820), time-and-strike movement, silk thread suspension, movement striking on an interior bell, rising on platform base mounted with winged caryatids and scrolling foliates, acanthus leaf trim, further raised on bun feet, accompanied by key and unassociated pendulum, observed operating, in need of adjustment to keep good time, one figure lacking element in right hand, back access door not present, approx 22"h, 19"w, 7"d, 37lbs
CR 7.2.25- As noted in the catalog description, the clock was observed operating but does not keep good time. The clock winds easily with little resistance, and the movement responds to winding (though it runs fast) when the pendulum is removed. The clock stops after a few seconds when the pendulum is placed, indicating that the pendulum is likely unassociated (ie. a mismatched weight). The bell and striker are present and resound nicely when manually struck. The silk suspension thread is intact. The movement is apparently unmarked.
From a visual physical examination, the ormolu exhibits typical light mellowing and minor gilt wear, as well as minor spotting concentrated at the base, minor restoration to garland held by female figure, male figure lacking wreath, there are typical minor abrasions to the enameled face commensurate with rubs from the minute and hour hands. The back access door is not present.
