French Empire style mahogany commode, 19th c., having rectangular marble top, projecting frieze drawer, over three additional drawers, gilt metal accents, flanked by columnar corner posts, rising on rounded feet, approx 35.5"h, 51 5/8"w, 24 7/8"d
11.27.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 2277: I note that the commode is presently intact and structurally sturdy, the marble top having inherent natural inclusions and fissures, as well as typical minute chipping to edges, mostly contained to the unfinished back edge, there are typical minor veneer chips and splits, mostly to the drawer fronts and columnar corner posts, some splits with a minute amount of lifting along the seam, these flaws are typical of mid 19th century furniture, typical separation at side panels remaining stable, I observe minute evidence of old woodworm commensurate with origin, the drawers currently operating smoothly with patination of the gilt metal hardware, there is typical tonal variation from areas of light fading to the finish, and a minor reinforcement to the lower edge of the right-hand corner post, the left-hand side foot has a dark gray substance that appears to be residue transferred from adjacent fills, and there is typical minor surface wear commensurate with age and use such as minor abrasions, nicks, and aforementioned small chips
