French Napoleon III gilt metal mantel clock, 19th c., glass cloche/ dome on ebonized base, enclosing shaped clock case, surmounted with seated painter at his easel, beside dial with enameled Roman numeral hour markers, time-and-strike movement marked Japy Freres, rising on scrolled feet, further raised on scalloped giltwood platform, accompanied by pendulum, broken suspension spring, not currently operational, clock: approx 12"h, 16"w, 5"d, overall: approx 18"h, 19"w, 8.5"d, 20lbs
CR 7.23.25- As mentioned in the catalog description, the clock is not currently operational. It is accompanied by a pendulum and a key, and the bell and striker resound nicely when manually struck. The clock winds easily with little resistance, and the movement appears to respond to winding (ie. the pendulum guiding arm moves back and forth when the clock is wound), however, the dial itself does not respond to winding. The pendulum appears to be ill-fitting, and as mentioned in the description, the suspension spring is broken, specifically detached at one side. As with all of our antique clocks, this piece would likely benefit from a professional adjustment and a thorough cleaning.
