French Renaissance Revival carved walnut sideboard, late 19th c., having split pediment crest with central shield, above open shelf rising on figural winged grotesque supports, lower case fitted with two drawers, over dual cabinet doors, revealing shelved interior, flanked by spiral twist columns, carved with figural masks, fruit, ribbons, and foliate scrollwork, on stepped platform base, approx 80"h, 54.25"w, 23"d

10.25.24: In my opinion regarding LOT 3116: I note that the sideboard is presently intact and structurally stable, the back left-hand side corner post of upper back panel with a glue-reinforced split remaining stable at this time, the front paws of both beast-form supports with a minor visible glue reinforcement, the top having a few typical splits commensurate with age and humidity exposure with remnants of filled reinforcement, there are typical tonal variations throughout the veneer including areas of light sun fading, there is minute evidence of old woodworm commensurate with origin, and sparse typical minor splits remaining stable at this time, the drawers currently operate smoothly, and there is typical minor surface wear such as small nicks and chips, some having filled concealment, and light abrasions commensurate with age and use
