Framed oil on canvas painting, Portrait of Francoise-Athenais de Rochechouart de Mortemart, Marquise of Montespan, follower of Pierre Mignard (French, 1612-1695), label verso Galerie Cardo, 61, Avenue Kleber, Passy 08-45, partial label Bibliotheque, Chateau de ...(?), sight: approx 24.25"h, 19"w, overall: 30"h, 24.75"w, 10lbs **Provenance: the contents of a Stratford Hills mansion**
Cr 6.9.25-In my opinion regarding LOT: 2200, I am not an expert on such works so please feel free to reach out with any additional questions after reviewing this report, a careful UV light examination reveals heavy old varnish, the work is overall intact and has been relined likely to stabilize the canvas, there is a faint line running across the top edge of work (see images) and a few possible repairs that were addressed through the relining process, however none fluoresce under UV light so I cannot confirm, there are several scattered minute paint flakes and a very few small areas of possible inpainting are noted, craquelure and general light grime are present, the work would likely benefit from a gentle cleaning, the rear canvas is as pictured, the frame is intact with some typical small repairs and stress to the protruding flowers and foliates, small areas of paint and finish loss are present with visible gesso particularly at the lower corners, please see attached images for your review
