Half stock percussion rifle with Remington straight rifled barrel, .40 caliber, c. 1850, the scrolled engraved lockplate marked Warren, Albany (New York), the 30" half round, half octagonal barrel with fixed front sight, adjustable rear sight, cleaning rod, inset blank silver cartouche behind barrel tang, at left side above trigger guard, and scrolled plate at left rear stock, brass trigger guard, brass inset patch box, brass curved butt plate, the hammer holds at first cock but not second cock, wood is good with minor use marks **Note: Warren, later Warren & Steele operated a hardware store in Albany, New York, about 80 miles from Ilion, New York where Eliphalet Remington established his business. Warren & Steele newspaper advertisements from 1852 included firearms and Remington barrels for sale. This barrel is marked at the underside, visible when it is removed from the stock, near the breech end on a curved line: "Remington". The Remington name was changed about 1839 to Remington & Sons.
