Large Japanese carved and lacquered two-panel folding screen, Meiji period (1868-1912), applied mother-of-pearl and bone birds with flowering branches, rising on casters, scattered losses and glue restorations to applied materials, each panel: approx 75"h, 34"w
03.11.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 3479: I note that the screen is presently intact, currently remaining securely joined at hinges, there is some overall typical minor surface wear, such as small scuffs, nicks, and abrasions, one panel having a central vertical split extending from a small gouge (split carries all the way through panel but remains intact and secure), I observe typical sparse lacquer losses commensurate with the minor surface wear, some of these spots with black in-painted concealment, as described there are typical minor losses and glue restorations throughout, both crests intact with minor glue repairs, the panels are slightly warped due to humidity exposure and as a result are slightly top heavy when free-standing the screen
