Framed etching and mezzotint engraving on paper, "The Stoning of Saint Stephen," signed and dated in the plate Rembrandt 1635 (Rembrandt van Rijn, Dutch, 1606-1669), accompanied by certificate of authenticity issued by Titus Fine Art, some small losses/imperfection at corners noted, sheet: approx 4"h, 3.5"w, sight: approx 4.5"h, 4.25"w, overall: approx 19"h, 18.25"w, 5.25lbs **Provenance: per certificate of authenticity, the collection of Samuel Solomonovitsch Scheikevitch (Moscow/ Paris, 1842-1908), Lugt accession numbers 2367 and 2264** **Note: This print was examined in-frame only. We do not know how it is mounted and have not examined the back of the sheet**SEE CONDITION SECTION FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**
07.07.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 3184: As described the etching has not been removed from the framing for examination in order to preserve the current condition and professional framing with rag board, as such it is unknown how the paper is mounted to the backing, the edges of the paper appear slightly lifted (“floating mount”, see images), there is a slight discoloration / blemish at the upper right corner, I am unsure if it is a possible old repair, I note some slight, minute wear and loss near corners some toning / discoloration, as is expected with age, I do not currently observe holes, loss, or tearing to the paper, figural scene and in-plate signature remains fully legible, framed by inherent plate indentations, fabric matting is free from notable staining or discoloration, the framing glass is free from observed chips or hairlines/ fractures, the frame with a couple minor nicks and flaked losses of the ebonized trim, please note that we are not experts in Renaissance works and it is the responsibility of the buyer to seek additional information beyond what is provided, again, the work was examined in frame only
