Framed oil on canvas painting, Stagecoach Passing Through Yosemite Tree Tunnel, signed lower right T. Hill, possibly Thomas Hill Sr. (British-American, 1829-1908) or his son Thomas Virgil Troyon Hill Jr. (California, 1871-1922), additional pencil signature on back stretcher, professional repairs near center of canvas, wax lined, small repaired tear near upper right corner, sight: approx 38.25"h, 44.5"w, overall: approx 44.5"h, 50.25"w, 5.25lbs **Through our consignor, the Houston Club, Texas**
6.9.26- In my opinion regarding LOT: please note I am not an expert on such works, the canvas is overall intact, it has been stabilized with a wax lining, a careful UV light examination reveals a heavy layer of aged varnish, fine craquelure, most concentrated in the upper quadrant and throughout the trees, a faint stretcher line is visible across the upper portion of the work, leading to a small repair at the upper right corner adjacent to the frame, there is an additional repair observed above the central team of horses, this area exhibiting associated craquelure and a small area of paint loss, scattered inpainting, and surface accretions, along with additional minor areas of possible repair and retouching, see images, overall the work presents well and is quite interesting, the work is housed within a gold painted frame with minor wear and wo paint flakes/chips to the left side frame Detailed condition reports are not included in this catalog. For additional information, including condition reports, please utilize the ASK A QUESTION tab found in each lot. All lots are sold as-is and where is.
