Steinway & Sons Model M medium grand piano, signed in plate by Theodore Steinway, c.1937, serial number 28174, NA Q 72, mahogany case, on tapering square legs, action rebuilt in 2008, accompanied by an adjustable button-tufted Paul Jansen Artist bench, approx. 38.75"h, 70"l (5'10"), 58"w (top down)  *Note: Inspection report available upon request.

Assessment by Piano Works registered technician:

Steinway model M, #28174, made in 1937.

Partially restored in 2008 with new action parts, damper felts.

High-gloss lacquer nish over red mahogany. Matching adjustable Jansen padded bench.

Case and Nish: some 'alligatoring' of the lacquer finish. Some scratches across the back, sides, and front. 1/4" veneer missing from front right corner. 

Trapwork and damper system (pedal system): solidly attached, quiet operation. Sustain pedal lifts all dampers evenly; sosteneuto pedal operates normally, una corde pedal properly adjusted. 

Damper felts were replaced in the 2008 rebuild.

Action: Rebuilt with Steinway hammers, wippens, backchecks. Keys rebushed. Action regulation is within normal parameters. Downweight: 60-63 grams. Downweight: 25-30 grams. 

Original ivory keytops, slightly yellowed. Hairline cracks at C4, D4, F4, B4, D5, G5. 

Hammers lightly grooved. Key dip: 10 mm., per Steinway specifications.

 Back action is fully functional and properly adjusted. 

Strings and Tuning Pins: Original strings and tuning pins in fair condition with some minor corrosion. Two wire splices at G#1 and A#1. Pinblock is tight. 

Soundboard, Bridges and Plate. No cracks or splits in the soundboard, plate or bridges. Good crown in soundboard. Some delamination of the right-side rim.

Plate autographed by Theodore Steinway in 1937!
